SESSION 1
MINISTRY
For the New Ecclesiastical Year, we will focus on the theme of Ministry in the life of the Church.
Our study will begin with an examination of the three-year ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ that
revealed Him as the Messiah and eternal God who comes to save. We will move to explore the
ministry of the Holy Apostles and the growth of the early Church. This, in turn, will lead to the
threefold-ordained ministry of bishop, priest, and deacon that we are familiar with today. Finally,
we will examine the Royal Priesthood or the ministry of all believers.
This series will draw heavily from the New Testament but will also use select writings of the
Holy Fathers, texts from the liturgical tradition, and contemporary reflections on ministry.
Please bring a Bible to class with you. The other materials will be distributed to all participants
in the form of a packet.
